The Gratitude Effect: How Kindness Moves Real Estate Forward

By David Cable, REALTOR®, RE/MAX Elite

Gratitude isn’t something I think about only in November — it drives me every day of the year. In real estate, you see quickly that homes come and go, but relationships last. Every client, every closing, every conversation about what’s next is a reminder that trust — and gratitude — are the foundation of everything worth doing.

Buying or selling a home is deeply personal. It’s about people at important crossroads in their lives moving closer to family, growing into more space, or starting fresh after a big change. What I love most is being invited into those moments and helping guide the way forward.

The heart of real estate isn’t the sale — it’s the story

For me, that’s what it’s all about. Real estate isn’t simply about a sales transaction; it’s about helping people find home. Seeing that moment of recognition, when everything clicks — that’s the part that sticks with you long after the paperwork is signed because behind every “sold” sign is a real story, and it’s rarely the same twice.

I think back to a recent couple who was relocating to Brevard County for work. Their timeline was tight, and stress levels were high. We toured several homes before walking into one that felt just right. The look between the couple said everything. They could picture their life there!

Gratitude builds trust — and trust builds community

Gratitude shows up in the small things: calling when I say I will, being honest when a property isn’t the right fit, checking in after the move to see how things are going. Those touches aren’t about business — they’re about being a reliable neighbor. Over time, that connection creates a community that’s built on care rather than contracts.

Most of my clients find me through a referral or a friend’s recommendation, and I take that to heart. Trust isn’t built in one meeting — it’s earned over time through honesty, consistency, and follow-through. When someone refers a family member or friend to me, it’s the highest compliment I can receive.

One client wrote: — “We have used David for 3 real estate transactions and would highly recommend using him. He is super responsive and listens to what your needs are and tries to find you the perfect house. If I do sell my house again, I will be using the David Cable Team."

Another shared: — “… David is the epitome of everything you would want in a real estate agent — phenomenal communication, extremely knowledgeable, honest and trust-worthy, well-connected, friendly, professional, and so very kind. I recommend him 110%!”

That kind of feedback means everything, because it captures exactly why I love what I do.

Kindness keeps everything moving forward

Here in Brevard County, I’ve seen firsthand how neighbors look out for one another — from lending a hand during hurricane prep to welcoming new families with open arms. It’s that same spirit that guides how I approach real estate. At its best, this business is about more than homes — it’s about helping people find their place in a community that feels like home. Because in real estate — as in life — kindness has a way of circling back.

When you treat people with respect and care, they remember it. They tell their friends. They send a quick text months later just to say how happy they are. Those simple gestures are what fuel me to keep doing this work the same way I always have: person by person, family by family, story by story.

Thankful for the stories still to come

For every real estate transaction, there’s a family settling in, a dream taking shape, and a story beginning again. To every client who’s allowed me to be part of their story — thank you. Your trust means more than words can say.

And to the readers thinking about their next move — whether you’re ready now or just starting to dream — I’d be honored to help you find your perfect place that feels like home.
